CLIFFORD TAKES THE HELM

Peter Clifford is named the fourth president in NHRA history in July after former president Tom Compton retired after 15 years at the helm.

BROWN GETS 50TH CAREER WIN

Antron Brown won Top Fuel in Englishtown, N.J., becoming just the 15th driver in NHRA history to reach the milestone. It was Brown’s third win of the season and led to his first world championship.

BONUS POINTS IN INDY

NHRA returned to awarding points and a half in NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series categories at prestigious NHRA U.S. Nationals for the first time since the 1988 season.

WELCOME TOP DRAGSTER, TOP SPORTSMAN

Top Dragster and Top Sportsman classes were granted full championship status. Marco Abruzzi (Top Dragster) and Jeffrey Barker (Top Sportsman) were crowned as the inaugural class champions.

Drew Skillman

In addition to winning at the NHRA Midwest Nationals, Skillman advanced to three other final rounds, including at the Circle K NHRA Winternationals, the first race he entered, and the season’s biggest event, the Chevrolet Performance NHRA U.S. Nationals. Skillman also qualified No. 1 three times during his rookie campaign, and he finished the season with a winning record of 26-21.
