FOUR-WIDE BECOMES REALITY

NHRA drag racers ran four-wide for the first time in official points-earning competition at the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway in Charlotte in March.

GLIDDEN MAKES SURPRISE RETURN

Pro Stock icon Bob Glidden, NHRA’s first 10-time champion and 80-event winner, returned to the cockpit at the NHRA U.S. Nationals after a seven-year absence.

PRO MOD JOINS THE FRAY

After several years of running as an exhibition series, Pro Mod racers were given an NHRA series with a 10-race championship schedule. Class veteran Rickie Smith won the inaugural championship.

‘SNAKE’ ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT

After more than 30 years and four championships as a driver and 16 more as a race- and championship-winning car owner, NHRA legend Don “the Snake” Prudhomme announced his retirement from the sport.

Louisiana native Tonglet became the third rookie driver to win a championship in NHRA history, joining Frank Hawley (Funny Car, 1982) and Gary Scelzi (Top Fuel, 1997).
