SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

‘THE RUN’

Tony Schumacher and crew chief Alan Johnson clinched the Top Fuel championship with a final-round run at the NHRA World Finals that reset the national record to steal the crown from Doug Kalitta.

RECORD PERFORMANCES

The national e.t. records and bump spots for quickest fields were reset in all four Pro classes. Speed records were broken in Funny Car and Pro Stock, and the quickest side-by-side races were run in three classes.

A YEAR OF LOSSES

Barbara Parks, wife of NHRA founder Wally, passed away Jan. 25. NHRA greats “Dyno Don” Nicholson and Ronnie Sox also died in 2006, along with Scott Geoffrion, “Big John” Mazmanian, Gene Mooneyham, and 1964 Top Fuel world champion Jack Williams.

DRIVING FORCE

Fans got to see a side of John Force they’d never seen as the Funny Car superstar and his family were the subjects of a hit reality TV show, Driving Force, which aired on the A&E Network.
