SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

GLIDDEN SCORES FINAL WIN

Bob Glidden won the 85th and final NHRA national event in Englishtown, N.J. The 10-time Winston Pro Stock champ, who suffered a heart attack in December 1994, retired from driving early in 1997.

CAPPS SCORES FIRST WIN

Ron Capps, a relatively unknown and inexperienced Top Alcohol Dragster driver, won his first Professional title in his rookie season when he drove Roger Primm’s Top Fueler to victory at the NHRA Northwest Nationals.

NHRA ENTERS CYBERSPACE

NHRA became the first major motorsports sanctioning body to stake a position on the new World Wide Web when it launched its website in July, sharing instant news, results, and information to a global audience.

COUCH RETIRES

Buster Couch, who for more than 30 years served as NHRA’s Chief Starter and launched future greats into competition, retired from the position following the 1995 NHRA World Finals.

Larry Dixon Jr.

Hired as the first driver for recently retired NHRA legend Don “the Snake” Prudhomme, Dixon, whose father Larry Sr., won Top Fuel at the 1970 NHRA Winternationals, scored four wins, including the prestigious NHRA U.S. Nationals and finished third in points.
