SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

MILLION-DOLLAR POINTS FUND

For the first time in NHRA history, competitors on the yearlong NHRA Winston Drag Racing Series battled for a share of more than $1 million, making it the richest in NHRA Championship Drag Racing history.

FOUR-SECOND BARRIER BROKEN

At the NHRA Supernationals in Texas in October, Gene Snow became the first NHRA Top Fuel driver to record a four-second run, six months after Eddie Hill did it first at a non-NHRA event.

INTERVAL TIMING INTRODUCED

At the season-opening NHRA Winternationals, drivers for the first time received time slips that included 330- and 660-foot elapsed time clockings with 1,000-foot timing scheduled to be added in the future.

BERNSTEIN’S BUSY WEEKEND

In addition to running his Budweiser King Funny Car, Kenny Bernstein’s two IndyCars were running at the Indy 500 and Ricky Rudd was driving his Buick on the NASCAR tour at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
