NHRA INTRODUCES NEW TROPHY

A new NHRA trophy designed by NHRA President Wally Parks depicting a fire-suited driver standing beside a wheel and drag slick tire was handed out for the first time at the 1969 NHRA Nationals.

WORLD FINALS TO DALLAS

Futuristic Dallas International Motor Speedway was the new home of the 1969 NHRA World Finals, where Steve Carbone (Top Fuel) and Jack Jones (Top Gas) led the list of world championship-winning victors.

FIGHTING IRISH NAB POMONA WIN

After two runner-ups in 1968, the “Fighting Irish” team of Tim Beebe and John Mulligan finally capitalized on the promise they had shown by winning their first Top Fuel title, at the season-opening NHRA Winternationals.

CAN’T DRIVE AND CHEW GUM

During qualifying at the 15th NHRA Nationals, D.A. Santucci passed out when chewing gum became lodged in his windpipe during a qualifying run, but he came back later to score his first win in Top Gas.
