NHRA ADDS FUNNY CAR FOR 1969

NHRA’s Experimental Stock class of current-model stock cars equipped with powerful, fuel-burning, and supercharged engines got a new name, Funny Car, and became a full-fledged eliminator for the 1969 season.

WORLD FINALS SHOWN LIVE

The world’s first closed-circuit telecast of a major drag race, the 1968 NHRA World Finals in Tulsa, Olka., transmitted live action from six cameras to huge screens in select theaters.

SPRINGNATIONALS ON THE MOVE

The NHRA Springnationals was moved from Bristol, Tenn., to Madison Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J., then the next year to Dallas. Englishtown became the home of the NHRA Summernationals in 1971.

ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL

At the Division 2 points meet in Phenix City, Ala., Division Director Buster Couch and crew halted racing for about 10 minutes to assist in pulling a spectator out of an abandoned well.
