SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

NATIONALS MOVES TO DETROIT

NHRA moved the NHRA Nationals to Detroit, a shrewd move that placed it on the doorstep of America’s automobile factories. A new strip, Detroit Dragway, was built and new rules, classes, and eliminators added.

SINGER LEADS NATIONAL CHAMPS

Rodney Singer claimed the national championship in Detroit as Top Eliminator, while the new Middle Eliminator trophy went to Otis Smith. George Montgomery won Little Eliminator, and Harold Ramsey scored in Stock.

NATIONAL, INTERNATIONAL REACH

Active tracks were in most of the 50 states, as well as in Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, England, France, Germany, Italy, North Africa, and Japan, with tracks being planned for Australia, New Zealand, and Scotland.

FIRST OFFICIAL RULEBOOK

Delegates from all parts of the nation joined together in Los Angeles in late 1959 at the National Drag Rules Conference to revise and review an official rulebook.
