SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

CALL TO ACTION

Hot Rod magazine’s March 1951 issue made a pitch to the hot rodding community to come together to form a national association to promote the sport, which led to the founding of NHRA.

THE BLUEPRINT

Within two months, Wally Parks and the publishers of Hot Rod convened a meeting of responsible parties to lay the groundwork and select new officers.

MEMBERSHIP GROWS

Membership applications quickly hit 1,000 per month. Many of the membership applications were accompanied by letters of praise and congratulations, as well as offers to help organize local chapters.

OUTSIDE HELP

With few exceptions, state highway patrolmen, police, and sheriffs’ offices eagerly assisted the NHRA program, leading to the formation of club-run racetracks.
